About the Valley

Casablanca transformed Chilean wine. Before its development in the 1980s, Chile was known almost exclusively for red wines. Then winemakers discovered that the Pacific Ocean's cooling influence — channelled through a gap in the coastal range — created a microclimate perfect for aromatic whites and delicate reds.

Today, Casablanca's Sauvignon Blanc is considered among the finest in the world: intensely aromatic, with citrus and herbaceous notes, and a mineral freshness that speaks of its cool origins. The valley sits just 65km from Santiago, making it an ideal day trip, and its morning fogs and afternoon breezes give the wines a distinctive tension and elegance.
